After waiting with our tickets in our hands for ten long months, Hamilton weekend finally arrived! A January weekend with sunshine and spring temps for our full three-day visit? We’ll take it!
An untimely for-just-this-weekend-only government shutdown scuttled our plans to climb to Lady Liberty’s crown on our first day, but luckily NYC offers plenty of other options. I’d never walked the High Line before, but it was right near our hotel and it was a beautiful day – a fun perspective on the city! Brass Monkey…
…that funky monkey!
After an ‘ain’t this a coincidence??’ meetup with hubby’s brother, we spent a moving afternoon in the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. More than 16 years later and it still feels like yesterday. A superbly well-done and somber experience.
The next day was Hamilton Day! We just had to make it to 3pm! We used our time wisely, checking out the views from the top of the Empire State Building…
…snagging cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, and even getting in a Naked Cowboy sighting!
Finally, the time had arrived! But first, a big decision…hmmm what to do, what to do?
We decided to take our chances and stick to Hamilton. Would it live up to the hype? Even from the very last row??
YES and YES! It was simply incredible. The boundless levels of talent in every aspect of the show just left me moved and awed. We loved every second – even hubby, an avowed hater of musicals! We ladies exhibited much self-control and did NOT belt out lyrics at the top of our lungs, and kept our sobs to a low volume during It’s Quiet Uptown. A truly spectacular performance.
Before heading out on our last day, we spent the morning on the NBC Studios tour – very fun! We had a brush with semi-celebrity – MSNBC weather man anyone?? – and shockingly, were NOT discovered by talent scouts during our mock broadcast at the end of the tour!
As usual, we ended our weekend saying ‘why don’t we come here more often??’ Hopefully we’ll be back soon – Lady Liberty’s crown still beckons!
